| The 36th Annual WV Scholastic Chess Championships were held at the Charleston Civic Center on April 24, 2004. The TDs were John Homer, Charles Szasz, John Szasz and Jerry Engle, assisted by teachers and parents from Kanawha-Putnam Home Educators, St. Francis Elementary School and John Adams Middle School.
One hundred and twenty players, 13 teams and 36 schools competed in this year's event. In each section the champion was the only undefeated, untied player in that section.
