The 37th Annual WV Scholastic Chess Championships were held at WV State University, Institute. The TDs were John Homer, Charles Szasz, John Szasz, Todd Hanson and Jerry Engle, assisted by teachers and parents from Kanawha-Putnam Home Educators, St. Francis Elementary School and Piedmont Elementary School. One hundred and twenty players, 18 teams and 27 schools competed in this year's event. In each section the champion was the only undefeated, untied player in that section.


Jason Young was nominated to the Denker Tournament of State Champions.
Sarah Hoxie and alternate Katie King, Teays Valley Christian, were nominated for the Polgar Girls Invitational.
