The 39th Annual WV Scholastic Championship was held on March 17, 2007 in Institute on the campus of WV State College. 102 players competed in this year's event, which consistently draws 100+ players. Congratulations to the winners and 'job well done' for the tournament directors, John Homer, Charles Szasz, Brian Hammons, and Craig Timmons. Results:High School (5 rounds) 1st - Ben Cowley 5.0 2nd-4th - Daniel Parrish, Caleb Aites, Jason Arnoldt 4.0 Ben Cowley and Sarah Hoxie will represent WV in the Denker and Polgar tournaments. Middle School (5 rounds) 1st-4th - Arpan Prabhu, Tudor Crihalmeanu, Timothy Phillips, Neel Madhavan 4.0 Elementary School (6 rounds) 1st - Andrew Stepp 6.0 (Andrew gained 114 rating points!) 2nd-3rd - Noah Stepp, Benjamin Lovett 5.0 Primary Section (5 rounds) 1st - Saad Khan 5.0 2nd - Daulton Schultheis 4.5 3rd - Kristopher Byers 3.5 | |
